Center for Mathematics and Science Education

Welcome! Our Fieldtrips will become available Tuesday, 8/13/13 - 10am.

Welcome  to the CMSE fieldtrips website!  Please use the menu to the left to navigate throughout this system.  In order to register for a lab, you must first take a moment to register with CMSE.  Already registered?  Go ahead and login.

As a user, you are able to register for any fieldtrips supported through the Center for Math & Science Education, i.e., science hands-on lab experiences.  Whether you're registered or not, please feel free to look at our calendar for upcoming events.  Also, look below for a brief listing of our current labs.

All Hands-On Science Lab Experiences will be $50/class for the 2013-14 academic year.  The cost covers program supplies and lab manuals for the visiting students.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our payment and cancellation policies have changed.  You are required to pay two weeks in advance or you will be dropped from your lab.  If you are paying by P.O., you will need to have that paperwork to us in the time allowed.  We understand that cancellations are often unavoidable, however we experienced a high number of late cancellations last academic year.  This is very disruptive to the university course that supports these experiences.  We now REQUIRE cancellation with two weeks notice or you will forfeit your payment.  We will do our best to refill these labs from the waiting list.  If you have any questions or concerns about these policies, please contact Brandi Aranguren at the Center for Math & Science Education (baranguren@csuchico.edu).

Our Fieldtrips

Magnetism
The Magnetism lab will help your class discover the exciting properties and uses of magnets! At the Hands-on Science Lab for Magnetism, your class will experience rich curriculum that is based on the 4th grade California Science Standards. Each of the six stations offers your student the opportunity to manipulate magnets in a guided lesson in a small group situation. To view available times and to register, Click here.

Rocks and Minerals
The Rocks and Minerals lab will help your class discover the dynamic cycle of rocks and investigate minerals up close. This Hands-on Science Lab about Rocks and Minerals, is based on the 4th grade California Science Standards. Each of the six stations offers your students the opportunity to explore the rock cycle, and get an in-depth look at minerals in a guided lesson in a small group situation. Electricity
Static electricity is an electrical charge on the surface of an object. Current electricity is a flow of negative charges through a conductor in a closed circuit. Some materials make good conductors and others make good insulators. Come to the Hands-on Science Lab for six exciting lab stations based on the '4th grade California Science Standards'. Matter
Come and explore how matter is 'anything that takes up space and has mass,' in our six stations of matter activities. We have created six exciting stations that are based on the 5th grade California Science Standards that will intrigue your students as well as help them understand some important points about matter. To view available times and to register, Click here.

Water
The Water Lab will help your class discover the exciting properties of water. Water can exist in all three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. The lab moves through the water cycle between evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. Water is a polar molecule that sticks to itself (cohesion) and sticks to other substances (adhesion). Experience all of these important properties of water at the exciting Hands-on Science Lab based on 5th grade California Science Standards. To view available times and to register, Click here.

Digestion
These six stations deal with life science activities that reinforce the '5th grade California Science Standards'. Students get to analyze and see not only the human digestion system, but also those of herbivores, carnivores, and other omnivores. They also get to see a digestion system of a living organism through microscopes! These fun stations will surely make your stomach rumble. To view available times and to register, Click here.

Plate Tectonics
Want to shake up your students? Using the 6th grade California Science Standards as our base, we have created six exciting lab stations filled with earth-shaking science activities to reinforce the science behind plate tectonics. Join us for some science activities that will be sure to measure a 9.0 on the excitement scale. To view available times and to register, Click here.

Photosynthesis
The 6th grade California Science Standards for Photosynthesis come alive at the Hands-on Science Lab! Six exciting stations all about how plants use carbon dioxide and energy from the sunlight to build molecules of sugar and to release oxygen will keep your students engaged. Close up views of the structure of a leaf is aided by the use of microscopes in this enlightening lab. To view available times and to register, Click here.
